X is reportedly testing a free version of Grok in limited regions. Over the weekend, several X users posted about the trial and its requirements. As reported by Techcrunch, to access Grok, you would need an X account that is at least seven days old and has a phone number linked to it.
The free version will limit users to 10 Grok 2 questions every 2 hours, 20 Grok 2 mini questions every 2 hours and the ability to analyze three images daily.
So far, Techcrunch has confirmed that the trial is available in New Zealand, and it is not yet known where else the trial is available.
In August this year, xAI expanded Grok's feature set with a second-generation release. It integrated Black Forest Labs' FLUX.1 AI for image generation capabilities. It added image analysis to the toolset late last month. In March, Grok was released publicly as an open-source project.
