EA is focused on revealing the next Battlefield game later this year but ahead of the reveal, a lot of content included in the game has leaked via the Battlefield Labs playtests. The latest is some basic information about the free-to-play battle royale mode. Battlefield 6, or whatever it ends up being called, will come with a remake of the Operation Firestorm battle royale mode from Battlefield V.
The leak comes from dataminer temporyal who has been consistently sharing information about the upcoming game. It includes a short clip of what is believed to be the start of a battle royale match. The post mentions that the map will be set in California and that players will drop in from CH-47 Chinook heavy-lift helicopters. While Operation Firestorm from Battlefield V had a ring of fire that would reduce the map size, Battlefield 6 will have a destructive ring made out of a compound called “NXC.”
While this doesn’t reveal much about the battle royale mode, it adds to what has already been leaked, which is arguably more noteworthy. The same leaker shared in May that the battle royale mode will have some interesting mechanics when it comes to eliminated players. When playing in teams, players who get eliminated shortly after dropping in will get a second chance through a free redeployment.
Furthermore, the ‘Oversight’ system will let eliminated players still contribute via remote cameras, drones, and turrets. The team members still alive will need to capture an Oversight terminal which will then give eliminated players control of “advanced security systems with lethal potential.”
It should be noted that these leaks are coming out of the playtests so there is a possibility that these features do not make it to the final game. That being said, a modern setting battle royale with new features and updated movement mechanics would be an interesting change for the Battlefield series.
