Off The Grid free-to-play battle royale has officially launched on Steam

Announced back in 2022, Off The Grid has seen a few delays but after a fairly successful early access run late last year, the game has now fully released on Steam. It is a free-to-play battle royale set in a cyberpunk dystopia with some interesting mechanics draped on top of the last man/team standing gameplay style. The game has been developed and published by Gunzilla Games that was co-founded by famous director Neill Blomkamp of District 9 fame.

Touting itself as the “next evolution of the shooter genre,” Off The Grid features modular death machines or player characters that have cyberlimbs that enable a variety of abilities. There are 15 different limbs available to loot and these cyberlimbs can be swapped out during the match. They can also be shot off the character rendering them arm-less or leg-less.

There is also quite a bit of verticality enabled by the aerial movement system and advanced jetpacks. The open world is set in Teardrop Island that has a mix of indoor and outdoor settings that players can use to their advantage. Gunzilla Games states that the battle royale mode is setting the stage for a 60-hour narrative campaign that will be released later this year.

Off The Grid is yet another game that uses some form of AI generated content. As per the Steam page, the game uses AI for early concept art, audio samples, and translations, that are refined and finalized by the team. “This includes AI-assisted localization of text, voice, and video to help deliver a high-quality experience across multiple languages. No AI content is generated during gameplay,” it reads.
