Imagine the toy soldiers from Toy Story reaching their limit, arming themselves and diving into intense battles across a child’s bedroom – that’s exactly what Mini Royale delivers. In this multiplayer shooter, you play as a green plastic soldier navigating oversized playrooms, using building blocks for cover and crayons as makeshift barricades. True to its name, Mini Royale brings the battle royale chaos of Fortnite to a pint-sized world.
Each round begins with a dramatic drop from a zeppelin alongside 49 other players. Once you hit the ground, it’s all about survival. Scour the battlefield for weapons and power-ups as you fight to be the last toy soldier standing. Mini Royale features a familiar arsenal, from shotguns and machine guns to sniper rifles and grenades. The grapple gun adds a burst of mobility, letting you zip across the map – and when paired with a parachute, it opens the door to surprise attacks from above.
Beyond the Battle Royale mode, Mini Royale also features a classic deathmatch and the unique “Color Conquest” mode. Here, players face off in teams of four and every eliminated opponent changes to the color of the team that defeated them – until only one color remains. According to the developers, more game modes are on the way.
Mixed reviews, but 1st place in the Steam charts
Mini Royale has been well received by many players, with its creative setting standing out as a major highlight. The blend of Toy Story nostalgia and action-packed shooting makes for a unique and original experience. Its fast-paced gameplay also earns praise, offering a refreshing change compared to other battle royale titles like PUBG or Call of Duty: Warzone. However, the game’s reception on Steam has been mixed, with only 64% of roughly 700 reviews being positive. Shortly after launch, many users reported widespread cheating issues that significantly impacted the overall experience.
The sound design in Mini Royale leaves much to be desired – footsteps, gunfire and their directions are often hard to pinpoint. The gunplay has also drawn criticism, with some players calling it “clunky” due to poor weapon balance and unresponsive hit feedback. Although the game is free to play, its monetization model has sparked frustration. A pricey Battle Pass and expensive skins contrast with the relatively limited amount of content currently available. Still, Mini Royale continues to attract a strong player base. Since launch, it has consistently maintained over 5,000 concurrent players and currently holds the top spot in Steam’s “Trending Free” category.
Free to play
