OnePlus is yet to release a gaming focused smartphone, but has just surprised with the launch of its new Gaming Triggers. The new accessory is compatible with both Android smartphones and Apple iPhones and are attachable and detachable. They have been designed to give gamers a more tactical experience, and an advantage, when playing Battle Royale games like PUBG and Fortnite.
The new OnePlus Gaming Triggers interact with the display of the smartphone using capacitive conduction but are designed not to cause damage to the glass. OnePlus says it uses Omron switches like those found in gaming mouse products designed for e-sports to enhance the tactile feedback the Triggers deliver. The Triggers will work with most screen protectors and protective case up to a maximum thickness of 11.5 mm.
In the small print, OnePlus says that due to the high touch sensitivity of some mobile displays, false touches may occur during use. To avoid this, OnePlus recommends installing the Triggers and turning the screen off and back on again before each gaming session. Similarly, some screen protectors could interfere with the functionality of the Triggers necessitating the removal of the protector for optimal functionality.
The new OnePlus Gaming Triggers are currently only available in the Indian market and are retailing for the equivalent of US$15. There isn’t any news of wider availability at this stage.
