OnePlus releases the limited Cobalt Edition of its Watch in China
OnePlus has finally unleashed the Limited Cobalt Edition of its first-gen Watch. The OEM originally introduced it alongside its "normal" 316L stainless-steel-encased sibling, claiming that its alloy, unique among smartwatches, incorporates cobalt for enhanced durability and esthetics.
This mostly culminates in a gold-ish color, as opposed to the black or silver shades in which the OnePlus Watch has been available up until now. However, the company has finally made it available in China, finally revealing its price in the process.
The limited edition goes for 1,599 yuan (~US$248) from May 17, 2021, whereas the conventional variant costs the equivalent of ~$159. Therefore, fans might need to brace for a similar price-hike should the Cobalt Limited Edition go on sale in other regions soon.
The cobalt OnePlus Watch also upgrades to sapphire glass for its 1.39-inch AMOLED display and a green leather strap. Otherwise, however, it has the same specs as its silicon-banded variants, an in-house version of RTOS included.
This software arguably contributed to the pannings which the wearable was met with in review on its launch. Nevertheless, the (vanilla) Watch is currently sold out on OnePlus' US webstore, possibly due to its build, as well as its fast-charging capability and its rated longevity (up to 14 days per charge). Indeed, those specs could be counted as the OnePlus Watch's few advantages in its crowded and competitive market.
