OnePlus Nord CE 5G launches with enticing features at an affordable price
OnePlus has launched the Nord 'Core Edition', a cheaper alternative to the OnePlus Nord, itself currently US$426 on Amazon (affiliate link). Unsurprisingly, the Core Edition is a stripped-down OnePlus Nord, although that does not make the Nord CE 5G a bad smartphone by any means.
The Nord CE 5G has a 6.43-inch AMOLED display that operates at up to 90 Hz. OnePlus is silent on the display's resolution, but we suspect that the company has used a 1080p panel. A 4,500 mAh battery underpins the device, which it can recharge at up to 30 W thanks to Warp Charge 30T. By contrast, the OnePlus Nord only has a 4,115 mAh battery, so the newer Nord CE 5G may have better battery life than its more expensive sibling.
Additionally, OnePlus has included Qualcomm's Snapdragon 750G SoC, a step-down from the Snapdragon 765G in the OnePlus Nord. The Nord CE 5G also has four cameras, with three on its rear. OnePlus has disclosed that it has included a 16 MP selfie camera and a 64 MP primary camera, but its press release lacks details about the device's ultra-wide-angle camera. Currently, all we know is that it has a 119° field of view (FoV). Similarly, OnePlus has offered no details on the Nord CE 5G's third rear-facing camera.
Likewise, OnePlus has not provided all the Nord CE 5G's measurements. However, we do know that the device weighs 170 g and is 7.9 mm thick. OnePlus has promised to provide two years worth of software updates and three years of security patch updates.
The OnePlus Nord CE 5G will be available from June 21 in Europe at 14:45 UTC. The device will start at €299 with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, albeit only in Charcoal Ink and on the company's website. OnePlus and other retailers will also sell 8 GB/128 GB and 12 GB/256 GB versions, which will retail for €329 and €399. Charcoal Ink will be available for all configurations, with Blue Void open to the 8 GB and 12 GB of RAM editions. OnePlus will restrict its Silver Ray colour to the flagship €399 version, though.
