OnePlus confirms paltry software support for the Nord N200 5G
OnePlus is launching the Nord N200 5G in the US shortly, having already released the Nord CE 5G in other markets. However, while OnePlus has promised to provide two years of software updates for the latter, it has committed itself to shorter coverage for the former.
According to 9to5Google, OnePlus will only release one OS update to the Nord N200 5G, mirroring the software support for the Nord N10 5G and Nord N100. Confusingly, OnePlus will deliver three years of security patches to the Nord N200 5G, but only two years for the N10 5G and N100.
The Nord N200 5G launches with Android 11, so its software support will cease as of Android 12. Hence, OnePlus' latest budget smartphone will be on borrowed time from the autumn when Google releases Android 12. OnePlus has yet to upgrade its previous Nord N devices from Android 10 to Android 11, so we doubt that an Android 12 update would be forthcoming for the Nord N200 5G.
Instead, we would not be surprised if the Nord N200 5G languishes on Android 11 until early 2022. OnePlus still refuses to provide timelines for the N10 5G and N100's Android 11 updates either, for some reason.
