Apple and Samsung may have sparked a new craze among mobile-device OEMs with the launch of their AirTags and Galaxy SmartTags respectively. Now, new hints of the latest brand to get in on this new game have emerged. The blog DroidMaze claims to have come across a filing for the trademark "OnePlusTag", suggesting the BBK off-shoot has its own smart-tracker in the works.
This new leak alleges that the OEM applied for its new trademark on May 18, 2021. It seems it was filed with China's intellectual property office CNIPA, following others for OnePlus Pay and OnePlus TV (products already on the market in question).
This report is given further weight by others insisting that the OEM's sister company, OPPO, has also patented and designed its own smart tag. The latest word on these devices is that they lack the keyring compatibility that conveniently entails the purchase of extra holders or clips to deploy the things, and also charge via an inbuilt USB type C port rather than user-replaceable batteries.
Therefore, it is likely that a OnePlus version would be a re-brand of this potentially upcoming accessory, as the OPPO Watch RX just might have become the OEM's first wearable instead. Not much else is known about either possible form of the tag, wireless capabilities included, however.
