OnePlus Watch Cyberpunk 2077 Edition launch date set for May 24 in China

Last year (2020), OnePlus launched a Cyberpunk 2077 themed smartphone in China. It never hit international shores, through. Looking at how Cyberpunk 2077 turned out, OnePlus may have dodged a bullet here. Did OnePlus learn its lesson and distance itself from the disgraced AAA game? Apparently not, because there seems to be a Cyberpunk 2077 OnePlus Watch in the pipeline.

OnePlus teased the OnePlus Watch Cyberpunk 2077 Edition via its official Weibo handle. Much like the OnePlus 8T, the wearable heavily relies on Cyberpunk 2077's black and yellow colour scheme. The OnePlus Watch Cyberpunk 2077 Edition has its custom boot animation, too, along with UI elements reminiscent of what you find in the game. It is slated for a May 24 release in China, with no word about its global launch, which seems very unlikely.

Fans and enthusiasts had high hopes for the OnePlus Watch, but it failed to live up to expectations. Cyberpunk 2077 was on that same boat, but with the expectation-o-meter cranked all the way up. However, Chinese audiences seem to like the game more than their western counterparts, even though it never saw an official release in China. That could be why OnePlus decided to revisit the doomed franchise. OnePlus hasn't abandoned its western fans completely, though, as there is a Harry Potter-themed OnePlus Watch in the works.
