Honor Play5 launched with an OLED display, 66 W charging and a 64 MP quad camera
Honor has launched the Play5, its latest mid-range smartphone. The new device will be available in China from May 26; it is unclear if Honor plans to release it internationally. The Play5 will start at CNY 2,099 (~US$326) with 128 GB of storage, but there will also be a 256 GB edition for CNY 2,229 (~US$346). Both versions will have UFS 2.1 storage and 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM, for reference.
Both versions also have a 6.53-inch display that resolves at 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. Honor has integrated a 16 MP front-facing camera and in-display fingerprint scanner within the OLED panel too, but Honor has not confirmed if the device also supports 2D facial recognition.
Additionally, the Play5 has a 64 MP primary camera, an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and dual 2 MP cameras. A MediaTek Dimensity 800U powers these, along with a 3,800 mAh battery that can recharge at up to 66 W. Honor will sell both variants in three colours and with Magic UI 4.0, Honor's custom version of Android 10. The Honor Play5 lacks Google Mobile Services (GMS), possibly because Honor only plans to sell it in China.
