Dahon has unveiled its first super-lightweight electric bike, the K-Feather, in North America and Europe. The electric bike features a folding design and comes with a full aluminum construction. As far as the weight is concerned, the K-Feather weighs just 12 kg (26.5 lbs) and measures 630 x 400 x 780 mm (24.8 x 15.7 x 30.7 inches) when folded. Dahon’s latest e-bike is undoubtedly compact, and one can easily store it in compact spaces or carry it on the go.
Though it’s not the absolute lightest e-bike currently available in the market. The LeMond Prolog, the Trek Domane+ SLR, and the Hummingbird Flax folding e-bike are the lightest e-bikes, with 11.8 kg (26 lb), 11.75 kg (25.90 lbs), and 10 kg (22 lbs) weights, respectively.
Speaking about powered things, Dahon has incorporated a lightweight 32 Nm 250 W rear hub motor into the K-Feather. While the company hasn’t revealed a maximum speed of the e-bike, the company claims that it offers a solid climbing performance and powerful torque. A 120 Wh battery powers the e-bike, which offers a maximum assistance range of 40 km (24.85 miles) on a single charge.
Despite its 3-step folding design, the K-Feather can handle payloads of up to 231 lbs (105 kg). Other features include 16” dual-wall rims, 14-gram stainless steel spokes, Dahon custom 20*1.75” tires, and forged aluminum 53-tooth chainring cranks. Unfortunately, there’s no LED display on the handlebar, and it also lacks app-based controls.
