VanMoof is now back with its two new premium e-bikes, the S6 and the S6 Open. Both e-bikes have very similar features, which include a 250 W front hub motor, a 487 Wh battery capacity, a kick lock, hydraulic disc brakes, and Hi-Vis smart lights. The S6 and S6 Open provide a top speed of 25 km/h (15.5 mph) and up to 150 km (93 miles) of range on a single charge.

It’s been a whole two years since VanMoof, the Dutch makers of high-tech electric bikes, filed for bankruptcy in 2023. Now, the company is back with two new premium electric bikes. VanMoof has introduced its latest S6 series e-bikes. The S6 series consists of the S6 and the S6 Open. Both e-bikes have a very similar set of features, albeit with a few tweaks.

The VanMoof S6 and the S6 Open boast the same 250 W front wheel hub motor with 68 Nm motor torque that provides acceleration support for up to 25 kph (15.5 mph) and four power levels for varying motor assistance. VanMoof has outfitted a large 487 Wh battery into both e-bikes, which is said to allow you to ride for up to 150 km (93 miles) on a single charge. Unlike other e-bikes, the battery isn’t removable, meaning recharging needs to take place on the bike and it takes around 6 hours and 30 minutes for a full recharge.

What makes them different is their dimensions. To be more precise, the S6 measures 1815 x 1051 x 654 mm (71.4 x 41.3 x 25.7 inches) and weighs around 23.5 kg (51.8 lbs). While the S6 Open is slightly smaller and lighter than the original S6, measuring 1671 x 1026 x 654 mm (65.7 x 40.3 x 25.7 inches) and weighing 22.5 kg (49.6 lbs). According to the company, the S6 is suitable for riders with a height ranging from 165 to 210 cm (~5.4-6.8 ft) and the S6 Open is suitable for users with a height ranging from 155 to 200 cm (~4.11-6.5 ft).

Furthermore, both e-bikes ship with different wheel sizes, with 27.5” wheels on the S6 and 24” wheels on the S6 Open. The S6 series also includes support for the VanMoof companion app, which further allows riders to tailor rides and tweak other e-bike settings. Other features include automatic rider recognition for touch unlock, a kick lock, an alarm system, built-in Apple FindMy, an auto-shift rear hub, and anti-theft nuts and bolts.

Available in blue, light grey, and black colorways, the VanMoof S6 series starts at €3,298 (~$3,750) and is now available for reservations, starting at €150. Deliveries are expected to begin in August. You can learn more about the S6 series e-bikes via VanMoof's official website.
