Infinite Battery: Designed to revolutionize e-bikes, can be used with many motors and is repairable
At first glance, batteries for electric cars and bicycles with electric motors usually look like completely customized, special systems. Such batteries usually consist of individual cells that are connected via special electronics. These individual battery cells can also be purchased, but repair by end users are normally not possible at this level.
As part of a crowdfunding campaign, Gouach Batteries is currently financing Infinite, a battery for e-bikes that can be easily maintained by the user. According to the manufacturer, only a few damaged storage cells can cause total battery failure in 90% of cases, which can mean high costs and environmental issues.
Infinite is intended to circumvent this problem by making the individual battery cells easily replaceable: accessibility is provided by screw connections. The individual battery cells only need to be inserted into the corresponding holders and no soldering is required. A sensor system is integrated, which not only provides values for voltages, currents and temperatures, but also for acceleration and humidity. These values can be easily monitored via an app, for which an ESP32 chip enables WiFi and Bluetooth connections. The housing is also said to be fireproof and IP67 certified, namely waterproof.
Compatibility is guaranteed with a wide range of electric motors and bikes from Shimano, Yamaha, Decathlon, Brose and Bosch, although batteries that are fully integrated into the frame cannot be replaced (but can be used as a range extender). The Infinite Battery is available as either 36 or 48 volts, 460 or 450 Wh (capacity), and the maximum continuous output 900 or 1,200 watts. Both variants weigh in at 3.6 kilograms.
The crowdfunding campaign is currently asking at least $249 per unit. The usual financial risks for such ventures apply, and potential supporters are advised to inform themselves about the terms of delivery. Shipping is estimated to start in January 2025.
