Engwe's next line of e-bikes has been revealed to be so far removed from the high-powered, all-terrain models for which it might be best known that the OEM has created a whole new brand under which to sell them.
The N1 and N1 Pro are poised to swap the fat tires and dual-battery moped-style frame of the M20 (currently going for $899.99 on Amazon) for 700c city tires and step-over frames made of cutting-edge carbon fiber.
Accordingly, the series is overtly aimed at commuters and general urban bikers, although Mapfour asserts that they will be capable of "mountain bike" levels of torque - although the spec is set at 80 newton-meters (Nm) in the Pro and 40Nm in the vanilla N1).
Both upcoming bikes will have 250W motors for up to 100km/~62 miles of range, 7-speed Shimano gears and active displays seamlessly integrated into their frames at the juncture of their handlebars.
The N1 series is also slated to boast geo-fencing, motion sensors and GPS for "smart theft protection", further augmented by "Smart Lock" and "Smart Lighting" features in the Pro.
The higher-end variant will also support "fastest ever" 1.5-hour charging for the new, detachable 36V/10Ah Samsung battery that will also be present in the N1.
Accordingly, Engwe backs the inaugural Mapfour bikes to fill the current VanMoof-shaped hole in the market, particularly the Pro version that is already hyped to land as the most advanced carbon-fiber model for less than €3,000 (~$3,125) on its impending release.
