Mercedes and n+ have just launched a new e-bike, the Mercedes-AMG F1 City Edition, in three size models for a price of $4,000. A smart helmet available for an additional $400. This is connected to the e-bike's telemetry (telemetry: the collection and analysis of data on performance parameters) and not only offers crash protection, but also a light-sensing headlight, a brake light, and thumb-operated turn indicators. It can also automatically send an SMS to designated contacts in the event of an accident.
The e-bike comes with a 750-watt hub motor that provides acceleration support up to 28 mph and four modes: 'Comfort' (energy conservation for long rides), 'Sport' (a balance of power and efficiency), 'Sport Plus' (extra power) and 'Race' (all-out performance). A color touchscreen is fixed to the handlebars, which measures a diagonal 5.5 inches and displays helmet controls and various riding parameters such as speed and battery level.
The bike is equipped with a classic derailleur system from Shimano with 9 gears. The hydraulic disc brakes are from Tektro and are equipped with 203-millimeter slotted disc rotors and two brake pistons. The installed "DownTube" battery has a capacity of 10Ah, while an additional "SeatTube" battery with half the capacity is available as an option. Lastly, the silver bike frame is made of aluminum alloy and does not have mudguards nor a luggage rack.
