Segway is offering another new e-bike with a powerful electric motor alongside the Xafari. At first glance, the Xyber looks like a motorbike but it is also a bicycle, as there are pedals so that it can be used without the support of the motor (at least in theory), but this is unlikely to be all that useful. A hub motor with a maximum output of 6,000 watts and a maximum torque of 175 Nm is installed. The Xyber is said to be able to accelerate to 32 km/h in just 2.7 seconds.
Up to two batteries with a capacity of up to 1,440 Wh each can be installed; the power is reduced to 3,000 watts when using just one battery. A maximum range of up to 180 kilometers (112 miles) on two batteries is advertised, but this is unlikely to be possible if the top speed is maintained continuously. Upon reading the fine print, Segway specifies that this range was achieved "while riding with 2 full batteries, 75 kg (165 lbs.) load, 25°C (77°F), at 20 mph speed under throttle mode on pavement" and also adds the important point that "some of the factors that affect range include speed, number of starts and stops, ambient temperature, etc."
The Xyber has full suspension, 110 mm on the front and 100 mm on the rear, comes with hydraulic disc brakes and a 1,300 lumen front light. 5-inch wide tires are fitted, which, in combination with the suspension, should make it suitable for off-road use. The specified net weight is 63 kg (138 lb) and the maximum weight limit is 185 kg (408 lb). GPS and Apple's Find My are integrated. A TFT screen with a screen diagonal of 2.4 inches is on board, of which the maximum brightness is specified as 1,400 cd/m². The accompanying Segway Mobility App allows users to locate their e-bike, check battery levels and remaining range, view ride data, and connect with Apple Health and Google Health.
The Segway Xyber is now available for pre-order in the USA at a price of $3,000.
