Eliminating VIPs, capturing tanks or stealing military gear from enemy bases – these are just a few possible objectives in the rumored Gauntlet mode, which could appear in Battlefield 7 according to a well-known dataminer.

Rumors about a battle royale mode in Battlefield 7 have been circulating for months. According to respected dataminer Temporyal, EA is also developing a large-scale sandbox mode under the project name "Gauntlet," which might take advantage of the expansive battle royale map.

The details come from the client of the Battlefield Labs test and are discussed in a recent Reddit post. A summary shared there – reportedly taken from internal game files – describes a mode set on a large sandbox map with multiple rounds and varied mission objectives. Temporyal hasn’t commented on the leak on his X account yet but frequently shares insights about upcoming Battlefield content there.

Constantly changing mission objectives

The "Gauntlet" mode will support solo, duo, trio or full-squad play (up to four players) and focus on dynamic mission objectives. In each round, multiple teams face off, but only a few will advance to the next phase. The map will be split into distinct zones, including an urban district, a crash site, a military base and a harbor. Players can expect to tackle the following challenges:

  • Vendetta: Protect/eliminate a VIP player
  • Eliminate Hostiles: Classic team deathmatch
  • Hotwire: Secure target zones, destroy vehicles
  • Rodeo: Capture and defend tanks
  • Extraction / Decryption: Collect, decrypt and extract data
  • Heist: Steal crates from enemy bases
  • Territory / Circuit: Capture and hold target zones

Overall, the concept draws inspiration from elements seen in Call of Duty: Warzone, Escape from Tarkov and Battlefield 2042’s less successful Hazard Zone mode – though with a stronger emphasis on variety and round-based structure. Thanks to its range of mission types, Gauntlet could end up being the most diverse mode in Battlefield history.

Community reacts with cautious optimism

On Reddit, the reaction has been cautiously optimistic. Some users are excited about the potential scope and tactical depth, while others remain skeptical, pointing to the shortcomings of past modes. A few question the need for such a feature, expressing concern that Battlefield might be drifting too close to Call of Duty’s territory. Whether this sandbox mode will actually make it into the final game – and how it will be received – remains to be seen. Battlefield 7 is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2025 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
