EA appears to have taken lessons from Battlefield 2042’s missteps and is making major gameplay improvements in Battlefield 6. A leaked video from the Battlefield Labs test reveals the first footage, showcasing tighter gunplay and smoother movement.

Battlefield 2042, the latest entry in the series, launched in November 2021 but struggled with technical issues, controversial design choices and missing core features. To prevent a repeat of this, EA has introduced Battlefield Labs, a test environment where players can try out new features early and share feedback. The first playtests have already taken place, revealing major gameplay changes. Fans can get a glimpse of the new mechanics in this Reddit thread, which includes an 11-minute gameplay video.

More precise gunplay

EA is implementing a 60 Hz tick rate in Battlefield 6, meaning servers will register player inputs and hits 60 times per second. This improves hit detection, especially in fast-paced firefights. Additionally, all weapons will feature new spread patterns and unique recoil behavior, making gunplay more precise, responsive and distinct for each weapon.

Improved movement

Battlefield 6 is also refining its movement system by bringing back classic mechanics. The crouch sprint from Battlefield 5 returns, along with the combat dive from Battlefield 4, 1 and 5, as well as the landing roll after jumps from Battlefield 5. Additionally, vaulting and leaning animations have been improved to enhance fluidity and give players greater freedom of movement.

Positive feedback from the Reddit community

The Reddit community has responded positively to the gameplay changes, with many fans praising the improved gunplay and smoother movement. However, concerns remain about monetization. Many players fear EA could undermine the experience post-launch with aggressive microtransactions, battle passes or paid content. Additionally, some criticize the map design, worried that the game may feature too many generic desert battlefields rather than more diverse and engaging environments.
