Fans of roguelikes such as Nuclear Throne or Enter the Gungeon often get used to being the hero, but RAM: Random Access Mayhem sort of flips that script. You play as a rogue AI with no permanent body, jumping into enemy robots, using their powers, swapping out when they break down, and turning foes against one another. The final 1.0 build launched on September 15, 2025 after an early access run that started November 18, 2024.
Over the course of its early access period, RAM built a solid foundation for itself: six playable bots, two procedural stages, daily challenges, leaderboards, and a hub area where you can play minigames. Players could already swap between unique bot types, each with their own movesets, upgrade trees, and quirks. The 1.0 update adds over 20 new levels, two new bots, a final boss, full storyline, and new side quests. These complete the experience promised by the dev earlier and deliver a more cohesive narrative arc.
Pricing is stable: the base price is US$11.99, and upon launch there is a 20% discount for early adopters on Steam. There’s also a Supporter Pack released on the same date with cosmetic skins and non-gameplay bonuses.
Player reception is largely positive. Steam reviews are "Very Positive" overall, with recent reviews following suit. Players are huge fans of the body-swapping mechanic, stylish combat, and level variety. Some criticism is pointed towards difficulty spikes, balancing issues among different bots, and occasional frustration when a host robot breaks too quickly.
In terms of platform compatibility, RAM supports Windows and macOS, and it’s listed as "Playable" on Steam Deck (curr. $757 on Amazon). Some users report small issues like text size being hard to read in handheld mode, or controller icons not always matching, but performance is generally acceptable.
