HP has updated its Omen 27 gaming monitors with a new line-up of high-refresh rate gaming monitors, starting at 180 Hz and 1080p and topping out at 280 Hz and 1440p. The entire line-up also now features AMD FreeSync, features factory colour calibration and 400 nits minimum brightness, making them solid all-round options.

HP has refreshed its 27-inch Omen gaming monitors with three new models, starting with the $249.99 entry-level Omen 27 G2, stepping up to the Omen 27q G2 at $299.99, and topping off the range with the Omen 27qs G2 at $449.99. All three new Omen 27 G2 gaming monitors are IPS displays, so there are some limitations to contrast, but the spec sheets all claim 1 ms GtG response times and high refresh rates. While all three are 27-inch gaming monitors, seemingly mostly aimed at the entry-level and e-sports gaming scene, there are some major differences that set the three monitors apart.

The mid-range 27q G2 seems like it offers the best value of the lot, although it may have a tough time competing directly with monitors like the $256.92 Asus TUF Gaming VG27AQ1A, which offers the same resolution, brightness, and colour specifications at almost $50 less. Granted, the new Omen 27q G2 has a 10 Hz higher refresh rate, but the TUF Gaming monitor also has an Nvidia G-Sync Compatible rating, giving it wider compatibility when it comes to VRR tech.

The new HP Omen monitors all also have some other quality-of-life features, like height-, tilt-, and pivot-adjustable stands. HP doesn't specify what its factory colour calibration targets are, but it says that all of the 27-inch G2 monitors are factory colour calibrated. The design of the Omen 27 G2 series is also unique without being too garish, thanks to slim front bezels and a minimalist stand design. The Omen 27qs G2 also features some RGB accent lighting around the monitor stand attachment, which could make for some interesting ambient lighting.
