The HP Omen Max 16 gaming laptop is now official. It can be configured with Intel Arrow Lake-HX and AMD Strix Point CPUs and GPUs from Nvidia and AMD. It goes on sale later this starting at $2,699.

Strictly speaking, the HP Omen Max 16 isn't much of a mystery because of a previous leak. However, it is one of the first 'Max' branded SKUs from HP and probably heralds a new class of high-performance laptops from the company.

Unlike offerings from other OEMs, HP lets you pick between Intel and AMD processors for the Omen Max 16. CPU choices include Ryzen AI 9 HX 375, Ryzen AI 7 350, Core Ultra 9 275HX and Core Ultra 7 255HX. There are multiple GPU options, too which appear to include options from Nvidia, AMD and even some next-gen RTX 50 series models.

RAM caps out at 64 GB DDR5-5600 for the Intel SKUs and 32 GB for AMD. Similarly, storage maxes out at 2 TB (PCIe Gen4). The Intel models can use up to a 1 TB PCIe Gen5 SSD. Despite using newer chips, the HP Omen Max 16 doesn't support Thunderbolt 5.0 and comes with two Thunderbolt 4.0 ports. On the other hand, the AMD variants get two USB 4.0 ports. Other I/O includes 2x 10 Gbps USB Type-A ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, a 3.5 mm combo audio jack and RJ45 Ethernet.

While Wi-Fi 7 is available on both variants, Intel-powered HP Omen Max 16 get an Intel Wi-Fi 7 radio while the AMD variants get one made by MediaTek. The laptop draws power from a 88 Wh battery and HP throws in a 330 Watt or 280 Watt power brick depending on the version you buy. The HP Omen Max 16 comes with a 16-inch screen. You can pick between three panels:

  • OLED (2,560 x 1,600), 500 nits peak brightness, 240 Hz refresh rate, 0.2 ms grey-to-grey response time, VRR support, 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage
