Asus's ROG Strix Scar 16 (2025 version) has made its official debut at CES 2025. This is a refreshed iteration of last year’s model with upgraded specs and features. The 16-inch gaming laptop is equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor (up to 65W TDP), and the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU with a Max TGP of 175W.
The refreshed ROG Strix Scar 16 boasts a 16-inch ROG Nebula HDR Mini-LED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600. With a 16:10 aspect ratio, a 240Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, and 1200-nit peak brightness, the display is Pantone validated (a certification that indicates a device can accurately reproduce the Pantone Matching System (PMS) colors) and supports Dolby Vision HDR, Nvidia G-Sync, and a 1200:1 contrast ratio. These features make it ideal for both gaming and content creation.
The laptop includes up to 64GB of DDR5 5600MHz RAM and dual storage options with up to 2TB of PCIe 4.0 SSDs. Cooling is handled by a tri-fan system, end-to-end vapor chamber, and Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal for efficient thermal management. Upgradability won't be an issue as well, considering there's tool-free access for easy hardware updates.
Weighing 5.51 pounds (2.5 kg) and featuring a chassis with AniMe Matrix Vision (to create and display custom lighting animations) and Aura Sync RGB lighting, the ROG Strix Scar 16 has an overall sleek and durable design. Connectivity is also pretty robust, with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and ports including two Thunderbolt 5, USB-A, HDMI 2.1, and a 2.5G LAN port. Additional features include a 90Wh battery with fast charging support, Dolby Atmos audio, and a 1080p FHD IR camera with Windows Hello for secure logins.
The ROG Strix Scar 16 starts at $2,599 for the base configuration.
