The demand for compact yet powerful Mini PCs has been growing as professionals are looking for devices that balance performance with portability. To address this, HP has introduced the Z2 Mini G1a Workstation Desktop PC at CES 2025. This mini workstation is ideal for professionals who demand high computational power in a compact form factor, making it ideal for AI workloads, 3D design, and demanding rendering tasks.
The Z2 Mini G1a is powered by AMD Ryzen AI MAX PRO processors, with options ranging from 6-core/12-thread to 16-core/32-thread configurations. It supports up to 128GB of LPDDR5x-8533 memory with unified memory architecture, which allows up to 96GB of RAM to be allocated directly to the GPU. Paired with AMD Radeon 8060S, 8050S, or 8040S graphics options, the workstation should be capable of handling AI-enhanced tasks and graphics-heavy projects.
Storage is highly configurable as well, with up to 8TB of dual NVMe modules. The workstation also offers expansion slots for additional PCIe SSDs to render additional flexibility for data-intensive workflows. For connectivity, the Z2 Mini includes dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, USB-A, USB-C, a 2.5GbE LAN port, and options for 10GbE network cards.
Despite its compact size—measuring 3.4 x 6.6 x 7.9 inches and weighing just over 5 pounds (2.3 kg)—the Z2 Mini is capable of supporting up to four simultaneous 4K displays, which makes it great for multi-display work environments. The Mini PC is pretty sustainable too, as evident by its use of 20% recycled steel, 60% recycled plastics, and a 100% sustainable outer box design.
The Z2 Mini G1a comes pre-installed with Windows 11 Pro and security tools like HP Wolf Security and HP Sure Start. Its 300W internal power supply can achieve up to 92% power output. It is expected to be available on HP.com/z in spring of 2025, with pricing details to be announced around the same time.
