Rockstar Games has recently focused on PC gamers with the release of GTA 5 Enhanced. Insider Tez2 now believes the publisher is preparing to add the game to PC Game Pass. Tez2 reported on social media after noticing changes with the Rockstar Game Launcher. While GTA 5 has been available on Xbox Game Pass several times, this would mark its debut on the PC-specific subscription service.
Negotiations to bring GTA 5 to the PC version of Game Pass date back to at least 2023. Documents from the Microsoft Activision Blizzard acquisition revealed that Take-Two Interactive asked for $12 to $15 million per month to add it to the service. Then, in July 2024, Tez2 hinted on social media that talks had progressed.
Unfortunately, PC Game Pass can add to the annoyance of using multiple launchers. Many titles boot using only the Xbox App, but third-party partners often link their launchers to Microsoft's software. That seems probable with GTA 5, which would require the Rockstar Games app and separate login information. If the game only stays on Game Pass for a limited time, players could continue their progress without a subscription.
Unlike on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, purchasing the base GTA 5 on PCs typically includes a GTA Online subscription. Presumably, multiplayer would also be available with PC Game Pass. Considering that purchases from the Rockstar Launcher qualify for the GTA 5 Enhanced, the upgrade may also be included. The graphical advancements and improved loading times make this version the most appealing option on PCs.
GTA 5 PC gamers groaned when they learned that GTA 6 would initially be exclusive to consoles. Adding the title to PC Game Pass would further expand the game's fan base, but may also attract console converts.
