GTA Online revenue leak suggests why Rockstar won't rush GTA 6 PC release date

Rockstar Games refused to meet the demands of the cybercriminal extortion group, ShinyHunters. As a result, the hackers exposed financial data for the studio, including GTA Online metrics. Given the amount of revenue generated by console players, the company likely won’t prioritize the GTA 6 PC release date.
PlayStation's massive presence on GTA Online
CharlieIntel was among the observers on social media who summarized the fiscal leaks. The PS5 dominates other platforms with 3,474,021 weekly active users and $4,486,346 in earnings. Meanwhile, 894,621 PC players populate the official multiplayer servers, contributing $264,273. Surprisingly, there are more Xbox One gamers than desktop or laptop users.
Consoles also lead the way in per-player spending, with the Xbox Series X at approximately $1.65 and the PS5 at $1.29. PC gamers only average around 30 cents in comparison.
It’s important to consider that the next crime epic won’t use GTA Online, which launched in 2013. Indications are that a new service will surface after the GTA 6 release date. A recent rumor hinted that GTA 6 Online could emerge as soon as a month after November 19th. Nevertheless, the franchise has its largest following on PlayStation systems.
Another factor is that Windows gamers have more multiplayer options for GTA 5. Many players prefer FiveM servers because they allow for role-playing with mods and custom modes. These statistics aren’t included in the numbers spread by the ShinyHunters group.
When will the next GTA hit Steam?
Take-Two Interactive has not even confirmed a GTA 6 PC port, let alone pinpointed its launch timing. Still, it’s widely expected that the game will come to the platform.
The time between a console debut and the arrival of a Windows release has varied across Rockstar titles. With GTA 5, it took nearly 19 months for the PC iteration to appear. DetectiveSeeds has a hit-or-miss track record for leaks, but believes the GTA 6 PC version could be ready by February 2027.
Despite the lower GTA Online player counts, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has acknowledged the rise of the PC market. Rockstar may remain a console-first studio, but it will look to capitalize on that growth.
