America's largest home security company confirms data breach

The largest home security company in the United States was broken into.
ADT, the largest home security company in America by revenue, confirmed a data breach of its customer information occurred on April 20. Though ADT did not disclose how many customers were affected in the breach, the company did say that customers' names, phone numbers, and addresses were compromised. ADT also said that the last four digits of some customers' Social Security Numbers (SSNs) or Tax IDs (TIDs) were stolen, as well as dates of birth.
ADT confirmed that no bank account or payment information was accessed in the breach. The company also stated it has contacted any affected individuals.
The hacker group known as ShinyHunters claims that it is behind the hack. On its website, the group recently stated it had stolen personal identifying information for over 10 million customers, as well as "other internal corporate data." The group has demanded that ADT "pay or leak," meaning it is threatening to leak this data if ADT does not pay a ransom.
What that ransom is is not clear at this point. ShinyHunters has told ADT to contact them by April 27 or it will leak the data as well as "several annoying (digital) problems."
It is not known if ADT has responded to ShinyHunters as of press time.
