GTA 6: Rockstar comments on hacker attack with ransom demand

The hacker group ShinyHunters has listed Rockstar Games on its leak site and claims to have gained access to internal data through a third-party integration with Anodot and Snowflake. According to the attackers, the leaked material includes financial data, information on player spending habits and contracts with external partners. The group has reportedly given Rockstar until April 14 to reach an agreement. It is also said to have made a ransom demand, although the amount remains unknown.
The listing on the ShinyHunters website appeared on April 11, 2026, and until now it had been unclear whether data had actually been leaked on the scale claimed. Rockstar Games has since officially confirmed to Insider Gaming that the incident is real. According to the company, however, only a “limited amount of non-essential company data” was affected. Most importantly for fans awaiting GTA 6, which is currently scheduled for fall 2026, Rockstar says the attack will have no impact on its operations or players.
On Reddit, the community reaction has so far been one of amusement rather than concern. Many users are joking about Rockstar once again being the target of a major hack or leak, treating the whole situation more like a meme than a serious threat. After all, Rockstar has repeatedly been affected by cyberattacks in the past and was already hit by a major leak in 2022. Very few commenters appear genuinely worried that the current incident could lead to another delay for Grand Theft Auto VI.
