Anticipating GTA 6 trailer or release date news, magazine cover tease enrages fans

Followers are becoming increasingly anxious for the third GTA 6 trailer or any news on the Rockstar Games project. May 12th was a popular guess to hear an update. In part, that’s because Game Informer had teased coverage for a mysterious title. After seeing its new cover debut live, some fans are accusing the magazine of raising false hopes.
A controversial cover reveal
The speculation began when Game Informer previewed its next issue with readers. The publication said, “We’re so excited to reveal that [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] will be gracing its cover next week.” With rumors that GTA 6 marketing might soon start ahead of its November release date, gamers immediately jumped to conclusions.
One title that would have fit in the censored space was Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI. Unfortunately, a livestream put to rest any theories that it would showcase the game to accompany a new trailer. Instead, the fantasy action-RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker headlines the latest issue.
Chatters watching the broadcast immediately expressed their disappointment, spamming “L.” Observers on social media and Reddit echoed those sentiments. A popular account that tracks leaks commented, “Game Informer knew exactly what they were doing.” Other posters claim the magazine should have done more to lower expectations.
Game Informer's relationship with Rockstar
Sensing the outrage, Executive Editor Brian Shea made a statement on the publication’s subreddit. He argues that the featured game had four words as promised and that any “anger is misdirected.”
That explanation didn’t sit well with gamers desperate to avoid another GTA 6 release date delay. While it may have been wishful thinking on their part, Game Informer previously offered exclusives on GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
The timing of Take-Two Interactive’s May 21st earnings also has fans on edge. In December 2023, the first GTA 6 trailer premiered on the same day as the briefing. Investors could hear confirmation that the game will still ship on November 19th. With other positive signs from the PlayStation Store, marketing may be about to ramp up.
