Console owners may not have to wait long for multiplayer to come to Rockstar Games' next title. The latest leak points to a December arrival for GTA 6 Online. GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 both saw the additional mode appear shortly after their release dates.

Many fans simply hope that the GTA 6 release date isn’t curtailed by another delay. Still, Rockstar Games likely has content drops planned for well after November 19. Former Call of Duty leaker, TheGhostOfHope, believes the developers may prioritize multiplayer features. He revealed on social media that GTA 6 Online could debut within a month after the game ships.

Is a December GTA 6 Online launch realistic?

Gamers may finally learn more about the Rockstar phenomenon when a summer marketing campaign begins. Although it’s expected to have an online functionality, the studio hasn’t provided details. Regardless, a December appearance for the mode wouldn’t be surprising considering the history of past projects.

Catering to GTA 5 players, the popular GTA Online arrived on October 1, 2013. That date was only a few weeks after the previously single-player-oriented title became available. However, a postponement may have mitigated the technical snafus that frustrated virtual criminals. For Red Dead Redemption 2, a multiplayer beta was ready a month later.

Even if the online component surfaces soon after the GTA 6 release date, GTA Online will survive. Reported by RockstarIntel, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick hinted that the service has a long future. The newer game will offer a separate multiplayer experience that may eventually replace the current option.

How Rockstar might evolve multiplayer gameplay

A recent court battle with fired Rockstar employees may have provided a clue about the mode. During the proceedings, a potential feature was made public. The company cited a Discord message from a disgruntled worker, who mentioned playtests with 32 users. This is not a shocking revelation, since GTA 5 accommodates 30 players.

Other GTA 6 leaks suggest that the developers will again rely on a live-service model. There may be fewer restrictions on user-created content than with its predecessor. Although tools exist, officially approved DLC and events tend to dominate GTA Online. Some gamers anticipate that following the acquisition of FiveM, the company will also be less resistant to mods.

Unfortunately, Rockstar will likely monetize many of the downloads in GTA 6 Online. Nevertheless, with massive sales forecasted, microtransactions are unlikely to deter players.
