Rockstar source denies GTA 6 release date will suffer delay due to broken feature

Even unlikely GTA 6 leaks can rattle fans who dread a third release date delay. After a celebrity gossip site reported problems with an essential feature, it predicted another postponement. News spread on social media, even if many followers questioned the source. However, a veteran Kotaku writer believes the claim has no merit.
How the latest GTA 6 rumor spread
UK rumor mill Popbitch reported that current builds lack the ability to save and load. Obviously, Rockstar Games could not ship the game without this basic system intact. It explained that the functionality was complex and required the knowledge of a former employee. Sadly, the worker was fired for supposedly leaking confidential information.
Gamers were skeptical that talented developers couldn’t figure out how to enable saves. Sure enough, Kotaku’s Zack Zwiezen confirmed with a source that the story was nonsense. In 2024, Zwiezen suggested that development was falling behind schedule before Rockstar announced the first GTA 6 delay in May 2025.
Take-Two Interactive tried to instill confidence in investors during a February earnings call. The publisher announced that a marketing campaign for the title would begin during the summer. Nevertheless, insiders have varying opinions on the likelihood of a November 19th release date.
Relentless release date speculation
Early in 2026, Bloomberg’s reputable Jason Schreier divulged that the project was still not “content complete”. With critical parts of the game unfinished, he couldn’t rule out more unhappy GTA 6 release date news.
Adding to the anxiety, a hacker who breached Rockstar in 2022 and shared preliminary footage recently reemerged. He insinuated that another individual possessed source code from an earlier build. If it became public, Take-Two may have to rethink its schedule.
Other commentators, like former animator at the studio Mike York, have made more optimistic predictions. As GameRant reported, he noted that the company has hesitated to push back a game more than twice. It would also seem like a missed opportunity not to capitalize on the lucrative holiday season.
Regardless, with fans on edge, even the more unbelievable leaks about a GTA 6 delay may gain traction.
