GTA 6 price will be 'very reasonable', says Take-Two CEO

When it comes to pricing for games over the years, $60 had been the norm for the longest time until Nintendo decided to charge $80 for its AAA titles. That enabled other studios and publishers to raise prices for their games as well. With GTA 6 being the most hyped and possibly the biggest game ever, fans have been concerned about its price tag. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently spoke about it and said they want people to feel the price was “fair.”
The ‘iicon’ conference that is currently underway had Zelnick talk about upcoming projects, including GTA 6 (via IGN). Along with confirming that the marketing for the game will start “soon,” he also spoke about the increasing prices for video games. Zelnick believes that at $60 to $70, game pricing has been cheaper over the years when considering inflation rates. However, Take-Two doesn’t think of it that way. They want to deliver an amazing experience that “feels very reasonable.”
Consumers pay for the value that you bring to them, and our job is to charge way way way less of the value delivery. How you feel about something you buy is the intersection of the thing itself and what you pay for. Consumers need to feel like the thing itself is amazing and the price they were charged was fair for what they got.
While this isn’t a confirmation for a less than $80 price tag for GTA 6, Zelnick believes that whatever they decide to charge for the game will feel worth it. In fact, previous reports have claimed even a $100 price tag would be worth it for GTA 6. Recent leaks also backed that claim as a platform that sells CD keys listed GTA 6 (Xbox Series X/S) for £89.99, which would be about $100 US.
Meanwhile, Rockstar has been silent about the game since the second delay news in June last year, but speculation suggests that a new trailer is around the corner. With Take-Two holding their earnings call on May 21, the third trailer could release as soon as next week. During the conference, Zelnick also reassured attendees that the game will be released on November 19 by joking that a lot of people will call in sick on that day.
In related news, there may be a sequel to L.A. Noire on the cards as Take-Two is looking to "do something in the future" with all of its intellectual property.
