GTA 6 will not only be the biggest video game ever, it will be the most talked about before launch as rumors and counter-rumors are popping up at the same time. It was recently reported that there will likely be another delay pushing the game to October 2026 but another industry insider has claimed the opposite. Till Rockstar provides clarity, everything is speculation.
For context, Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming shared during a podcast that they cannot see GTA 6 releasing in May. Because Rockstar are perfectionists, they will likely take a few more months with the game and push it to October 2026, with an announcement for the delay coming this November. The game was originally scheduled for a fall 2025 release but that got postponed to May 26, 2026.
Around the same time as this information came out, Luke Stephens posted a video on YouTube (linked below) stating that they spoke with someone “pretty high up in the publishing side” of things with knowledge of the project (around the 2:30 mark). This ‘someone’ claims Rockstar developers are confident and that there will not be any more delays.
There have been several reports for both sides, starting as early as from around the official delay announcement. A former Rockstar dev stated that since the company has shared an exact release date this time, there will not be any more delays. Then, an industry insider warned about another possible delay citing sources close to Rockstar and reactions from development studios.
In June, it was reported that Rockstar was struggling to finish the final chapter and that GTA 6 was going through “development hell.” In July, another leaker, notably with not the best track record, had claimed that GTA 6 could be pushed back to September 2026 and cited internal talks as their source.
More recently, Rockstar put up job postings for its marketing department, suspected to work on GTA 6 promotions. The positions were for a Narrative Video Editor and a Motion Graphics Artist. While this does suggest Rockstar is making progress on the game and new content might be released by end of this year or early next year, it does not confirm a timely release.
There are several possibilities here, but all of them should be considered with a grain of salt. We could get a delay announcement in November (as suggested by Henderson), or we could get more promotional content by end of year (as suggested by the job postings). There could be a delay announcement early next year, or, the game could release on May 26, 2026 without any delays.
