After multiple GTA 6 release date delays, fans are anxious for any news about the game. While it’s not a substitute for a third trailer, a dataminer may have discovered files from the Rockstar Games project. Appearing in GTA Online, the clothing items have textures and file naming conventions foreign to GTA 5.
As reported by RockstarIntel, Lucas7yoshi_RS discussed the curious findings by rollschuh2282 on social media. A bikini top, heart boxer shorts, and a pair of jeans emerge from the laundry during a Money Fronts mission. When analyzing the files, Lucas7yoshi_RS notes that they contain traces of PBR (Physically Based Rendering). This type of 3D modeling is native to Red Dead Redemption 2, but not GTA 5.
The file names provide more clues that the additions are a legitimate GTA 6 leak. Instead of the pattern common to GTA 5, the files rely on the metapeds character system. Once again, the style that includes more characters and additional suffixes is employed in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Why would GTA 6 items show up in GTA Online?
One of the dataminers cautions that other items in GTA Online intended for GTA 5 utilize PBR for their textures. Developers may have used an “incorrect workflow”. Still, Lucas7yoshi_RS believes that the file names are more clear-cut evidence that the clothing is destined for GTA 6.
It’s also uncertain if identical cars or clothing will be available in both the upcoming Rockstar Games title and GTA 5. Many reports indicate that GTA 6 will introduce a new standalone online component. Whether GTA 6 clothing or DLC could be compatible with Grand Theft Auto Online is questionable. Previously, RockstarIntel highlighted that it’s unlikely developers would offer higher-quality assets for older games.
Gamers will continue to dissect any future GTA 6 trailer to see if anything from the Leonida maps surfaces in GTA Online.
