Artificial intelligence continues to progress at high speed, and it is taking up more and more space in the video game world. Indeed, several games use this tool to improve certain features. However, many players do not appreciate AI, and recently, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, director of The Witcher 3, spoke to Eurogamer about this subject.
First of all, he mentioned The Blood of Dawnwalker, for which he used AI during the test phase for the characters voices before hiring real actors, allowing him to have a first overview. Subsequently, he gave a clear opinion on this technology:
"But on this subject, i think that AI should help people and AI shouldn't replace them. If we can use AI to make people's lives easier…I'm not totally against AI, but it needs to evolve to the place where it will be the tool which helps us, like Google Translate, not something which steals the author rights and creates the graphics or the animations because it learns from the creations of people."
Furthermore, he specified that creative people would never be replaced by AI. For this, he believes that each game must convey emotions, which this technology cannot do. Finally, while he believes that the games that will be created by artificial intelligence will have no soul, he adds that this technology can serve as a support. But it will be necessary to see if AI will transform this industry in the future and what the consequences will be.
