The Synology BC800Z smart security camera has arrived in Europe. Designed for business use, this 4K model offers color night vision, and it supports HDR. Plus, there is a range of AI tools including license plate recognition, occupancy monitoring, smoke detection and intruder alerts.

Synology has launched a new smart security camera, the BC800Z. This bullet camera is designed for businesses, providing surveillance of your premises 24/7

The BC800Z has an 8MP sensor, capturing footage with a 4K Ultra HD (3,840 x 2,160 px) resolution. It supports HDR, delivering detailed video in various lighting conditions. There is also adjustable zoom thanks to a motorized varifocal, and a 1/1.8" starlight sensor provides color night vision. Plus, the device's Smart Bitrate Control helps to strike a balance between video quality and reduce file size to maximize storage and reduce network requirements.

Synology's BC800Z has local processed AI functionality, bringing a range of smart tools to the camera, such as distinguishing between people and vehicles. There is edge license plate recognition, capturing the details of a vehicle's plate in a 3 to 10 m (~9 to 32 ft) range. You can monitor occupancy with the camera counting people as they enter or exit the building, with automated alerts when capacity is reached. The device can also detect smoke and intruders entering a designated zone from a particular direction.

When reviewing the footage captured by the BC800Z, there is a smart Instant Search feature, making it easier to find the clip you are looking for. Plus, auto tracking will intelligently centre the target in the frame. Users can receive alerts on their smartphones via the brand's app, where they can also set up detection zones and view stored footage. The security camera uses power-over-Ethernet (PoE) and is IP66/IP67 rated weatherproof and IK10 rated impact resistant. It is also worth noting that users may require a Synology Surveillance Device License for this product. In Europe, the Synology BC800Z security camera is priced at €399.
