GTA 6 could be an SSD killer – rumored to take up around 200 GB

Rumors are currently circulating that GTA 6 could require roughly twice as much storage as its predecessor – around 200 GB. The claim comes from a post by the X account WILL_STORM12, which has repeatedly picked up rumors about Grand Theft Auto 6 in the past, though without a verifiable insider track record. The leaker does not name a source, so the claim should be treated with caution. Still, the figure is not entirely far-fetched.
Depending on the platform, GTA 5 already requires up to 100 GB of storage. A sequel almost twice that size would be plausible given higher-resolution textures, a denser game world, larger audio files and more elaborate cutscenes. This would be especially problematic for owners of the standard PS5 (available on Amazon for $673): of the 825 GB of internal storage, only around 667 GB is usable. A 200 GB game would therefore eat up almost a third of the available space – a real SSD killer. Ahead of GTA 6’s release, many PS5 owners will likely need to clear out their SSDs.
The expected storage requirement is unlikely to come as a major surprise, however. A few days before the leak on X, Reddit users were already discussing how much space GTA 6 might need. Many consider 150 to 200 GB realistic, while some expect even more. There is little panic – more a pragmatic assumption that GTA 6 could give players with smaller SSDs a reason to free up storage or upgrade. Fans are currently more concerned that the game’s graphics might fall short of the level shown in the trailers released so far.
