The Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5 sets new standards as a compact gaming tablet: With the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, it delivers top performance that can easily keep up with other top tablets.
The 8.8-inch IPS display impresses with 165 Hz, a resolution of 3040 × 1904 pixels and a brightness of up to 582 cd/m² - ideal for smooth gaming without PWM flickering.
Despite the high memory prices, Lenovo has provided a generous 12 GB of RAM and the 9,000 mAh battery enables long gaming sessions, while the sturdy metal casing with RGB LED effects on the back will not only appeal to gamers.
Equipment and features
The tablet scores with two USB ports (including DisplayPort), one on the long edge and one on the short edge. This means you can easily charge the tablet while holding it horizontally for gaming without the cable getting in the way.
The Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5 offers a microSD slot for memory expansion and WiFi 7 for lightning-fast Internet. The touchscreen responds to touch at 480 Hz, which enables very immediate input. The pen support expands the usage options.
However, it lacks 5G and GPS, meaning that the tablet is not so suitable for use on the move despite its compact form factor. There is also no fingerprint sensor.
Performance and temperatures
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 ensures outstanding performance, but the tablet gets scorching hot under load - particularly unpleasant when held in the hand for long periods. The SoC also throttles noticeably in stress tests.
The speakers deliver good sound, but could be louder.
Cameras and verdict
The 50 MP rear camera and the 8 MP front camera are only mediocre.
The Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5 is not cheap, but it offers comprehensive gaming equipment for anyone who is willing to compromise on heat development and missing features. The tablet is ideal for gamers who value performance, display and battery life.
