"King of mobile gaming" or flop? Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5 has to prove itself

In our big review report on the Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5, we asked whether the gaming tablet is the "King of Mobile Gaming". This would require a very fast processor, a smooth screen, good cooling, long runtimes and a stylish case with gimmicks for gamers.

Fast and durable gaming tablet

And the tablet sports some of these features: With its Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, it relies on high performance in a compact 8.8-inch format. The display is high-resolution and offers a refresh rate of 165 Hz, which ensures smooth and responsive images - a decisive advantage in competitive games where every millisecond counts. However, it is questionable whether this advantage can really be used, as many Android games unfortunately do not use such high frame rates.

With two USB-C ports, one of which is located on the side of the device, the Legion Tab Gen 5 conveniently allows charging also in landscape format while gaming. This is particularly practical for long gaming sessions. However, the 9,000 mAh battery ensures a good endurance even without a charging cable, allowing you to play demanding games for hours on end.

Cooling is not optimal

Lenovo has also opted for an optimized cooling solution that should effectively dissipate the heat generated. However, this is precisely the biggest point of criticism in the review: Despite all the technical measures, the Legion Tab Gen 5 gets quite hot during intensive gaming. This strong heat development leads to thermal throttling, which can noticeably impair performance.

There is no active cooler, but generic accessories from third-party manufacturers can be found on the Internet.

Another special feature is the support for an active stylus, which expands the tablet's range of applications: for example, for graphic designers or as a notebook. The casing with RGB effects on the back is also stylish.

Verdict on the Lenovo gamer

The tablet is clearly aimed at gamers who don't want to do without high-end hardware on the go. However, the heat clearly tarnishes the otherwise convincing overall package of performance, display and features.
