GTA 6: Why fans fear downgrades to graphics, NPC density and frame rate

Some GTA fans worry that Grand Theft Auto 6 may ultimately not look quite as good as the two trailers suggest. On the one hand, Rockstar likely paid close attention to perfect staging in the trailers, with ideal lighting and camera angles – possibly even showing more vehicle and pedestrian traffic than the final game will offer. On the other hand, the hardware of the current console generation could limit the game, particularly when it comes to ray tracing.
Reddit user u/Jayanshsaurus has reignited the discussion, but appears convinced that GTA 6 will actually reach trailer-level visuals in-game. This assumption is mainly based on Rockstar’s track record: in the past, the studio has often managed to keep trailer visuals and final in-game graphics very close together. To support the point, the Redditor shared a comparison image with trailer and in-game screenshots from GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Many fans agree with the thread creator and are confident that Rockstar will deliver graphically with GTA 6 as well. Others remain skeptical. Their biggest concern is not necessarily weaker textures, but rather cutbacks to traffic and crowd density, which could make the game world feel less alive overall. A possible 30 FPS target on consoles is also worrying some fans.
Should Rockstar have to compromise on NPC density, traffic or frame rate at launch, later versions for more powerful hardware could address those limitations. After all, Grand Theft Auto 6 is likely to remain relevant well beyond the launch of the PlayStation 6 and the next Xbox. For now, however, the question of how PC players might be affected by such restrictions does not really apply: GTA 6 is still expected to launch on November 19, 2026, initially only on consoles, with a PC version following at a later date.
