It’s been quite a wait (Grand Theft Auto V was released in 2013), but Rockstar is finally ready to start teasing Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6). Unsurprisingly, on the back of this news there have been some outrageous claims being made on X, with one from Alex Smith getting some attention. The poster used to work at Bend Studio (the company behind Syphon Filter) and Ember Lab (Kena: Bridge of Spirits), so may possibly have been privy to some leaks. Smith insists the information is accurate although does explain away any mistaken thoughts of GTA 6 being exclusive to PS5.
The relevant tweet (embedded below) states that PlayStation will be in possession of “marketing rights” for GTA 6 for the PS5 (Slim variant curr. from US$449.99 on Amazon). This does not mean it won’t be released on the Xbox Series X, it simply means that Sony will be able to use GTA 6 IP to market its products. This certainly hints at a bundle, with the source distinctly commenting that a PlayStation 5 Pro GTA 6 bundle is being considered. This has been rumored elsewhere in the past, and with reports stating that the PS5 Pro release date will be in November 2024 with Grand Theft Auto VI also turning up around the same time, a bundle of the two seems almost like a surefire thing.
What may upset plenty of gamers is the incredible claim that GTA 6 will not be coming to consoles and PC at the same time – PC owners will allegedly have to wait a whole year before getting to play the game on their preferred choice of platform according to this source. Whereas the likelihood of a PS5 Pro/GTA 6 bundle is easy to believe, as is the idea that Sony will want to have marketing rights for the game on the PS5, making PC gamers wait 12 months for the title seems like it would be a poor business move for Rockstar when it involves millions and even billions of dollars in sales.
