Update | Sketchy GTA 6 rumor claims PC release to follow 12-18 months after console launch, which is pushed to early-mid 2026
September 9, 2024 / 4:36 PM CEST update: A reliable source on the topic, Jason Schreier, dispelled the rumors of GTA 6 being delayed on his X/Twitter account. He further stated that 6 Rockstar Games' employees informed him that they were unaware of any delays. The original article follows below.
A sketchy rumor has surfaced on X, claiming that the highly anticipated GTA 6 may now be delayed until early to mid-2026. It doesn't end there — the post also mentions that the PC version will allegedly launch 12–18 months after the console release. This rumor comes with no solid backing, and many are questioning its credibility, considering it lacks any official confirmation from Rockstar Games.
Nevertheless, some fans are outright denying the rumor, stating there's no integrity, which is understandable. Others believe that Rockstar Games' history of delaying games is a testament to this rumor. For instance, Red Dead Redemption 2, originally set for a 2017 release, was delayed twice before launching in October 2018. All in all, fans are widely in disbelief — at least according to the comments on Twitter/X.
The shady leak comes shortly after fans released version 1.5 of a detailed PDF document that compiles all known GTA 6 leaks and rumors. Created by members of the r/GTA6 Discord and GTA forums, the document provides detailed insights into various in-game elements, including characters like Lucia, Jason, Dre, and Sam, as well as vehicles, weapons, and activities. It features visuals and descriptions of open-world events, accessible buildings, and gameplay systems such as money laundering, a redesigned weapon wheel, and a buddy system for coordinating robberies.
Additionally, the pdf file sheds more light on the game’s attention to detail, showing more realistic NPC reactions and enhanced environmental elements like fog and lighting, suggesting that these will play a major role in GTA 6’s gameplay.
In the end, this alleged rumor about Grand Theft Auto 6's delay should be taken with a grain of salt — quite possibly a big grain, too. Although the leak was also reposted by one of the writers/designers who worked on the aforementioned document, nothing can be said for sure until Rockstar Games officially announces anything.
EXCLUSIVE: GTA VI has been internally delayed by Rockstar Games and they’re already decided on the early to mid 2026 release window.
