Since the first trailer reveal, Rockstar hasn't offered much information about Grand Theft Auto 6. However, this lack of official information about GTA 6 didn't stop fans from speculating about what the upcoming entry to the series will bring to the table.
As for how well GTA Six may run on consoles, a former Rockstar Games animator, Mike York, has shared what he expects. In an interview with Kiwi Talkz, which has now been taken down, York shares that the game may not hit 60 FPS on non-PC platforms at launch.
York believes Rockstar Games is aiming to offer a locked 30 FPS gameplay on current-gen consoles. This wouldn't be surprising because, at launch, GTA 5 ran at 30 FPS on PS3 and Xbox 360. Rockstar Games later brought it to the modern consoles, PS5 (Slim with Fortnite Cobalt Star Bundle curr. $374.99 on Best Buy) and Xbox Series X, on which the game can run at 60 FPS.
Another thing to note is that the first GTA 6 trailer showed off how good the graphics of the game is. Running such a graphically intensive title at locked 30 FPS would still be good enough for many gamers at launch. Of course, York didn't rule out the possibility of hitting 60 FPS with the help of an AI upscale and frame generation tech.
The former Rockstar Games animator adds that even the upgraded PS5 Pro may not be able to run GTA VI at raw 60 FPS. But then again, it's worth noting that York hasn't worked with Rockstar since Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 5, and he said, "I don't know what they're doing over there."
However, from his experience, York believes that Rockstar Games may be currently putting more importance on making GTA 6 run "amazing at 30 FPS."
