Netflix has been offering mobile games with its subscription for a few years now, and the library has grown over time with the addition of classics such as GTA: San Andreas as well as games based on its original series such as Squid Games and Money Heist. Last year, the streaming giant announced a handful of games were coming to the platform, but new information has surfaced revealing six of those games will no longer be released.
The six games include a first-party game and a few games from Klei Entertainment and two other developers. According to What's on Netflix, who first reported the news, a Netflix representative said the decision to no longer release the games is “part of adjusting our portfolio as we learn more about what our members like.”
The list of cancelled games include Compass Point: West which was developed by Next Games, an internal Netflix game studio; Klei Entertainment's Don't Starve Together, Lab Rat, and Rotwood; Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game; and Thirsty Suitors. The aforementioned games join Crashlands 2 and Placid Plastic Duck, two games which were previously announced will not be coming to Netflix anymore.
Not only is Netflix cancelling games that have not made it to the platform, it has also removed some games that were previously available just as it does with movies and shows. Last year, it removed Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto 3; and according to a Netflix representative, this will continue to happen as the license to list these games expire. However, it most likely shouldn't affect first party games or games tied to original Netflix shows such as Squid Game, The Dragon Prince, and Money Heist.
