Just a few days before the release of Sid Meier's Civilization VII, 2K Studios has announced that the strategy game will be getting a VR version that will be available on the Meta Quest 3 (available on Amazon for $499.99) and Quest 3S VR headsets.
The game, which will officially be sold as Sid Meier's Civilization VII - VR, will be the first in the franchise announced for virtual reality and mixed reality headsets. Due for release in Spring 2025, the game will be exclusive to the two aforementioned Meta headsets.
According to 2K Games, players will be able to choose between an immersive VR experience and a mixed reality mode. In the former, gameplay takes place in an ornate museum while overlooking a vista personalized to the chosen leader, while in mixed reality mode, the command table adapts to a chosen surface in your physical space.
Civilization VII - VR will also provide players with the opportunity to have face-to-face diplomatic meetings with other world leaders. They will also be able to revisit their histories and achievements in The Archives — a dedicated space where important parts of your civilization are captured as dioramas.
Another interesting feature of the VR version of Civilization VII is that games are by default, set to faster speeds compared to the PC version. This makes it possible to play through an entire age during a single headset session
. However, there's also the option to modify the pace to suit your preference.
Civilization VII - VR will be available to play in both single player and multiplayer (co-op and competitive) modes. The latter supports playing with up to three other players with a Quest 3 or Quest 3S headset. In addition, when in multiplayer mode, friends and opponents appear as their chosen world leader standing next to the command table.
Both 2K Games and Meta are yet to reveal the price of Civilization VII - VR, but the game is available to wishlist now on the Meta Horizon Store.
