Since yesterday, South Park is no longer available worldwide, except in the United States, angering many fans. But there are reasons that explain this decision, even if no one knows when this cult program will reappear in the countries concerned.

Popular around the world, South Park seems to have been in a difficult position for some time now. Indeed, no agreement has been reached with Paramount+, leading to the removal of all episodes from the legal streaming platform worldwide, except in the United States.

This is a real blow for millions of fans, especially considering that the $900 million contract signed by Trey Parker and Matt Stone in 2021 was valid until the 30th season and included 14 TV movies. But while this may have seemed like a dream come true, the reality was far less glorious.

Between 2021 and 2025, only the 26th season was released, and it contained only six episodes. Worse still, of the fourteen TV movies planned, only four were released. To understand this situation, we need to look at Paramount+

As a result, the 27th season of South Park was originally scheduled to premiere on July 9. However, Paramount made the surprising decision to postpone the release by two weeks, to July 23, angering the creators of South Park, who took to the show's official Twitter account to express their frustration: "This merger is a sh*t show and it's f*cking up South Park. We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow."

But that's not all, because Paramount has merged with Skydance, which is headed by David Ellison. And Ellison does not want to extend South Park's rights, stating that he does not want to keep a “vulgar” and “politically incorrect” series in his catalog. This echoes Paramount's conflict with US President Donald Trump, for which the platform paid a $16 million settlement.

Finally, Trey Parker and Matt Stone have often criticized Jeff Shell for interfering in their negotiations with Netflix and HBO Max, which has led to a major disagreement over time. It should be noted that Paramount had imposed a 12-month exclusive broadcast period on its own platform before allowing the program to move on to other outlets. Thus, finding themselves at an impasse, the creators of South Park decided to take the case to court, and the rights were not renewed, resulting in the removal of all episodes, and therefore all seasons, worldwide, except in the United States.
