A recent rumor suggested that GTA 6 has already been internally delayed to 2026. However, a former Rockstar Games developer says that it's too early for the team to know whether they need to postpone the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Rockstar Games has already confirmed that the release timeline for GTA 6 is set for 2025, and in the final quarterly earnings call for 2024, Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that the release window is set for "fall 2025." However, a recent rumor suggested something different.

That questionable report claimed that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been internally delayed to 2026. Given that this sparked quite a conversation among fans, a former Rockstar Games lead has made a comment in this regard. The ex-developer says that it's too early to tell whether GTA 6 will get delayed.

Obbe Vermeij, the former developer, notes that Rockstar Games decided to delay the launch of GTA 4 "four months or so before the original release date." Through this, Vermeij wanted to imply that if the team had to push back the release date of GTA 6, they wouldn't know it now.

This makes sense because, per the launch window previously shared, Grand Theft Auto 6 will still be in production for another year from now. So, if you consider the GTA 4 delay announcement, Rockstar won't know whether to delay the upcoming game "until May-ish" of next year.

Worth noting that Vermeij didn't completely disregard the possibility of a delay. The hype surrounding GTA 6 has been building since the launch of Grand Theft Auto 5. With the recent announcement of PlayStation 5 Pro, fans are waiting to see how the mid-gen refresh of the current consoles handle this much-awaited game (PS5 Slim available on Amazon).

Considering all this anticipation, Vermeij thinks that Rockstar won't release GTA 6 if they are not "100% happy with it." Hopefully, the game's second trailer will give the gamers a better idea of when it will land.
