New Nintendo Switch 2 report confirms attractive price, dual-screen design, and AI features
The rumor mill always starts churning information out faster as we move closer to the launch of a product. The same is looking true for the Nintendo Switch 2, since the purported reveal date falls sometime next month, it seems there is some new information every other day. For instance, we reported last week that the next-gen Switch could be called the “Switch Superior” and bring magnetic Joy-Cons, a bigger display, and more.
Courtesy of the Taiwan Economic Daily, we now have another Switch 2 leak to digest.
Dual-screen Nintendo Switch 2 with a bigger battery life
Taiwan Economic Daily reports that, per market speculation, the Switch 2 will come with a larger display, more battery life, better performance, and “AI functions”. The machine translation of the native Chinese text also points to an enhanced “screen processing”. This could be referring to the refresh rate of the Switch 2’s display which some past rumors have claimed to be 120 Hz.
Curiously, the publication also mentions that the Nintendo Switch 2 is a “dual-screen” system. At first glance, this looks to be pointing to a Nintendo DS-like design. Although unlikely, this is a real possibility, since Nintendo has a vast backlog of DS and 3DS titles that it can port to the next-gen Switch.
That said, it is highly unlikely that the Switch 2 is a dual-screen console like the DS, as we’ve yet to hear a trustworthy source mention this development.
The “dual-screen” terminology could also mean the Switch 2 might function a bit like the Nintendo Wii U.
Nintendo launched the Wii U in November 2012 as the follow-up to the popular Nintendo Wii. The console had a novel design with a “Wii U GamePad” controller with a built-in display and a traditional console box that connected to a TV. This way the Wii U GamePad could be used in conjunction with a TV to provide a dual-screen experience.
So, if the Switch 2 has a dual-screen function like the Wii U, we can expect the console to boast some neat party tricks like a split game UI.
Nintendo Switch 2 price
In addition to hardware information, Taiwan Economic Daily also suggests a Nintendo Switch 2 price of $400. This is in line with our reporting from last week where we argued that $400, if it is indeed the accurate MSRP of the next-gen Switch, is a solid price for the console.
Long story short, the Nintendo Switch 2 is shaping up to be a big upgrade over the current Switch. If the proposed hardware enhancements end up true and if Nintendo has a killer launch lineup, it is not hard to imagine the Switch 2 becoming a phenomenon like its predecessor.
