Nintendo Switch successor to feature magnetic Joy-Cons and Steam Deck-like triggers - a sketchy 4chan leak claims
4chan leaks are a hit or miss (the latter being more likely), especially when it comes to highly anticipated products like the Nintendo Switch 2 (which may launch next month for $400), the successor to one of the highest selling handheld consoles ever. Typically, leakers will publish any exciting or seemingly viral information to rouse the fans and possibly earn internet points.
A brand-new rumor has now made its way over to the anonymous online message board, and if the sketchy leak is to be believed, the Nintendo Switch 2 had the label "Nintendo Superior". The leaker, who claims they were involved in the filming of the promo video for the Switch successor, held the new Pro Controller in their hands, and it had "Nintendo Superior" across the front, very similar to the Switch's Pro Controller.
Now, this could be made-up information, or it could be partially legitimate - there's no way to say for sure. As previously mentioned, there is no credibility involved whatsoever with 4chan leaks. Most likely, the "Nintendo Superior" name was merely an internal moniker, exclusively for commercial filming. From this point onwards, it does get interesting, however.
The anonymous leaker further talked about the hardware aspects of the Switch 2 in their post. They mentioned that the Joy-Con on the handheld were magnetic, further adding that the Joy-Con design had a 'groove' of sorts to make it comfortable to hold. They also stated that the handheld had analog triggers, and the display of the so-called "Nintendo Superior" was 'way bigger' than the regular Switch and closer to the Switch OLED's display size - which should put it around 7 inches, or bigger.
Of course, the comments on the original post were full of inquisition and doubt - zero credibility and complete anonymity will do that. The leaker responded to some of the questions, providing a few more details. According to them, the "Nintendo Superior" felt like a real unit, not just a prototype or mock-up. They described the device as being light, noting it was slightly heavier than the current Nintendo Switch (currently $289.99 on Amazon) but not as heavy or bulky as the Steam Deck (currently $471 on Amazon).
When asked about the feel of the analog triggers, they replied that the Joy-Con triggers felt similar to those of the Steam Deck. In contrast, the Pro Controller's triggers were more like those found on the PlayStation 5's controllers ($69.99 on Amazon right now). The leaker explicitly stated that they were under close scrutiny while handling the device, mentioning they were watched carefully and even told off when they tried to press the power button.
Fans should maintain a healthy amount of skepticism about this piece of information, since it is easy to cling to even slightly believable data when anticipation is at an all-time high. Until Nintendo makes an official Switch 2 announcement, it's best to take these leaks with a grain of salt and enjoy the speculation for what it is.
