Black Myth: Wukong has made a lasting impression on the gaming community - and it looks like the journey is set to continue. According to an industry insider, the action game may receive a DLC in early 2025.

Black Myth: Wukong (here in the benchmark test on Notebookcheck) is without a doubt one of the most successful games of 2024. The mixture of Chinese mythology, action-packed combat system and challenging difficulty level is a concept that seems to go down very well with gamers. Good news awaits those who have already completed the game and are craving more: Rumors are circulating that Black Myth: Wukong could receive DLC or an expansion in early 2025.

This information comes from analyst and China expert Daniel Camilo, who works as a consultant for the games industry and regularly provides insights into the Chinese market. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he mentioned that the information about the Wukong DLC comes from first-hand sources. The release is scheduled to take place around the Chinese New Year - at the end of January or beginning of February.

No details known about the content

There is no concrete information yet about the content of the possible DLC. On Reddit, players speculate that certain chapters of the game seemed incomplete and could possibly be expanded in the DLC. Some fans complain that chapters 5 and 6 are less fleshed out compared to the previous sections and that the DLC could possibly serve to fill these gaps. Other voices claim that the original ending is already pretty clear and they don't see much need for additional content.

Sales forecasts

Interestingly, Camilo also commented on the potential sales figures of the DLC. Despite the success of Black Myth: Wukong, which has sold over 20 million copies worldwide, he assumes that only around 20% of the player base would buy a DLC. This could be due to the game's high level of difficulty and the fact that around 70% of sales took place in China. Camilo suspects that the initial national pride in the Chinese project may have waned somewhat by the time the DLC was released. Incidentally, Wukong requires a fairly high level of computing power. As the test showed, even the RTX 4090 as Nvidia's mobile GPU flagship is barely capable of playing the game at 60 FPS in QHD quality and with ray tracing.
